Introduction of bill H. 297

For too long have the wealthy 1% been able to cheat their way around income taxes through various loopholes but not much longer. That's why I introduced H297: “An act relating to a surcharge on income tax' to the Vermont House of Representatives. Once signed into law, this bill would add a 1% tax surcharge on incomes of $500'000 and higher. It is only fair for people who make 16x as much as the average Vermonter, to contribute their fair share to our society.”

When considering legislation to introduce to respond to our growing income inequality, Rep. Mary Howard and I realized we were mutually working on similar bills and chose to combine our bills.

This bill has gone to Ways and Means committee and I’ll be following it throughout the year.
