April 4th, 2022 8:30AM

White River Junction, Vermont

Democrat Becca White, Hartford State Representative, announces her candidacy for the Windsor County State Senate.

Representative Becca White as a lifelong resident of Hartford and graduate from Hartford High School and University of Vermont has lived the experience of a Vermonter. She entered public service at age 20, campaigned and won two terms on the Hartford Selectboard, one term as the Selectboard Chair. Through her tenure on the board she gained an appreciation for the concerns of Hartford residents and the diverse opinions related to local issues. Eager to support Hartford constitutes on broader issues, she ran and  won the race for Hartford State Representative in 2018 and 2020. She is currently completing a second two year term as State Representative in the Windsor 4-2 District and a committee member of the Vermont Transportation Board.

A champion of democratic principles in all aspects of Vermont life drives her commitment to serve all Windsor County constitutes. Becca's experiences working to support her community during the COVID-19 pandemic laid bare to her the inequities in housing, child care, transportation systems and access to healthcare. These issues have motivated her to seek a new leadership role and find solutions to solve these regional challenges.

In addition to her local and legislative experience she has been employed in promoting solar applications and statewide efficiency programs to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels while addressing the climate crisis. Using this knowledge and working as a community organizer she has established many local and regional connections and feels this is the right time to launch the next generation of  Windsor County leadership.

In Becca's own words: “My hometown of Hartford is a microcosm of the diversity in the larger Windsor County. The five villages of Hartford has a rural community in West Hartford, a thriving White River Junction downtown, blue and white collar suburbs in Wilder and Hartford Village, and a tourist- driven economy in Quechee. When I think about the role a Senator plays in serving her community, I know that the constituent services I have provided for the last four years at the State level and the four years in local government will be put to use for the more than 50,000 residents of  Windsor county. We need an enthusiastic champion for Windsor County in the Vermont Senate, and I have the experience and grit to lift up constituents across the district. I’m proud to have grown up in Hartford and to be able to continue to give back to the communities I love and the people who supported me in all my endeavors.”

A campaign launch party is scheduled for May in Windsor, all are welcome.  Becca is looking forward in the coming months hearing from Windsor County voters on their issues and gaining support for her Windsor County Senatorial candidacy.  Campaign Manager Ethan Lawrence, an active community leader in Windsor, Vermont and a former Hartford native will be supporting her electoral journey.
